While talking to Geo News, CEO of Sports in Pakistan Shoaib Nizam said that over the past 8 to 10 years, there has been a noticeable surge in popularity of marathon running among Pakistanis.
"Numerous individuals have engaged in international marathons such as Berlin, Chicago, London, and Tokyo, inspiring a growing interest in participation within Pakistan," he said.
In contrast to previous marathons organised by the Pakistan Athletics Federation and other entities, the Karachi Marathon stands out as it is officially recognised by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
"A representative from Australia visited Pakistan to measure and certify the marathon track," Shoaib revealed.
"Additional requirements have been implemented, including the use of chips on runners' bibs to provide precise results and timings.
"These certified results will be accessible to World Athletics and other marathons with qualification requirements.
"Participating in the Karachi Marathon opens doors for runners to qualify for prestigious events like the Boston, London, and Tokyo marathons. We are introducing the same system in Pakistan that has been instrumental in setting world records," he concluded.
Muhammad Junaid, an anchor for Geo News, who has participated in Boston, London, Chicago and Berlin Marathons, urged Pakistanis to actively take part in this. "The marathon is inclusive, welcoming people from all walks of life.
"There is a vital message for the Pakistani nation – our goal should not be to lead in diabetes or heart ailments but rather in fitness, health, and sports," he added.
The Karachi Marathon is not just a race; it's a celebration of endurance, determination, and the spirit of Karachi. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a beginner looking for a fun challenge, this event has something for everyone.
